Description
Carbide turning tools have a couple of advantages of standard turning tools. One of the most satisfying advantages is that we dont have to sharpen tools when they become dull over time. Another advantage is that they are ready to go right out of the box! No more making sure your brand new tool is sharp enough to start turning.
Carbide cutters will stay sharper for a longer period of time when compared to standard turning tools. When the carbide cutter finally dulls, simply loosen the screw that holds the cutter in place, rotate the cutter to a sharp, clean edge and then secure the cutter by tightening the screw.
Carbide cutters dont so much cut your wood or material like standard turning tools. The idea is that the razor sharp carbide shears the material to produce much cleaner cuts and tends to be easier to use than standard styles of turning tools. This carbide cutter fits the Savannah Hollower tools as well as other popular Mid-Size Hollower tools.
This cutter comes with two screws that are sized for Savannah turning tools, but depending on your turning tool thread size, you may need to use the screws that came with your turning tools to properly secure this cutter.
While carbide cutters are designed to be disposed of when they are no longer sharp enough to cut into your material, you can sharpen these cutters by simply using a flat diamond stone or card. Lay the cutter with the wide (top), flat side against the diamond card and using your finger slide the cutter approximately 7-10 times back and forth. You may use lapping fluid or oil if desired. Doing so, will prolong the life of your cutter even more!
