Composition: Our high-quality Belgorod chalk is made from almost 100% pure calcium carbonate. It consists mainly of calcite, a common component of sedimentary rock – especially limestone. Calcite is found in limestone, corals, shells and chalk. In addition, 2-4% of chalk can be made of quartz or other minerals depending on the geographical conditions of the environment.
Texture and shape: premium Belgorod chalk is the perfect blend of earthy, velvety and slightly dusty. However, it is also very smooth and feels almost creamy. It feels and looks almost malleable on the surface, and it is quite soft geologically. It can be broken by hand with little effort. The earthy feel of the chalk is very clean and untouched. It has a mild but characteristic smell, almost like a fresh morning dew on a mountain meadow.

Origin and formation: Our first-class Belgorod chalk comes directly from the deposits in the mountains near the city of Belgorod. It is exceptionally pure and 100% natural shaped by Mother Earth. The chalk consists mainly of calcite, which comes from microscopic plankton and other marine organisms that have settled on the ancient seabed. Over the millennia, the calcite from the plankton has been shaped into calcium carbonate by the pressure of tectonic activity and natural layering.
